Shock train control by boundary layer suction in a scramjet isolator

Vignesh Ram Petha Sethuraman et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the characteristics of the shock train flow field in an isolator and its control through boundary layer suction. Results show that boundary layer suction causes slight downstream movement and length reduction of the shock train, and when suction flow is choked, the shock train transforms into a single normal shock. The variations in upstream boundary layer greatly affect the suction flow ratio and can lead to significant improvements in total pressure loss and static pressure rise.

Effects of back pressure perturbation on shock train oscillations in a rectangular duct

Vignesh Ram Petha Sethuraman et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the oscillation of shock train in a scramjet engine is affected by downstream pressure perturbations. The downstream pressure perturbation has a noticeable effect on the maximum axial movement of the shock train, and as the frequency increases, the propagation speed decreases.

Experimental investigation of shock train behavior in a supersonic isolator

Summary: Wind tunnel experiments were conducted to study the shock train structure and dynamic oscillation features in supersonic isolator flows at different Mach numbers. The experiments revealed a more three-dimensional shock train leading shock at Mach 2.70, with smaller pressure fluctuation amplitudes near the corner region and longer downstream propagation of shock train oscillations. Schlieren visualization techniques helped distinguish alternating distributions of density gradients within the shock train structures. Analysis of power spectra and coherence of schlieren images clarified the movement relationship between structures in the shock train.

Buzz characteristics and separation bubble dynamics in supersonic intake

Summary: This study numerically simulates the dynamics of separation bubbles in an axisymmetric supersonic mixed-compression inlet, revealing the formation of multiple separation bubbles near the exit and the isolator entrance. The propagation path of pressure disturbances is analyzed through the temporal variation of pressure signals, showing the possibility of disturbance propagation from the separation zone near the exit plug to the upstream.

Summary: The study numerically investigates the impact of impinging shock waves of varying strengths on the free shear layer in a confined supersonic cavity flow. As the strength of the shock waves increases, the pressure on the cavity wall also increases, exhibiting resonant behavior.

Summary: The study analyzes the essential influencing factors for determining plateau pressure in shock wave/boundary layer interactions and proposes a new scaling rule based on two nondimensional parameters. This scaling rule shows promising results in collapsing experimental data onto a single curve, providing a more accurate theoretical predicting model for SWTBLIs.
