How to factor 2048 bit RSA integers in 8 hours using 20 million noisy qubits

Craig Gidney et al.

Summary: This study significantly reduces the cost of factoring integers and computing discrete logarithms in finite fields on a quantum computer by combining techniques from various sources. Plausible physical assumptions for large-scale superconducting qubit platforms are used to estimate the approximate cost of the construction. Factors normally ignored are taken into account, leading to more accurate results than previous studies.

Cost of Universality: A Comparative Study of the Overhead of State Distillation and Code Switching with Color Codes

Michael E. Beverland et al.

Summary: Estimating and reducing the overhead of fault-tolerance (FT) schemes is important for scalable quantum computers. This study directly compares two leading FT implementations of the T gate in 2D color codes, finding that implementing the T gate via code switching does not offer substantial savings over state distillation. The research sheds light on future FT schemes and hardware designs by providing a direct comparison of the overhead of state distillation and code switching.
