Magnetic-free silicon nitride integrated optical isolator

Summary: An electrically driven, magnetic-free optical isolator is demonstrated using aluminium nitride piezoelectric modulators and a silicon nitride microring resonator. The transmission reciprocity is broken by spatio-temporal modulation of the Si3N4 microring resonator, achieving a maximum of 10 dB isolation and excellent optical linearity.
