Magnetocaloric effect of high-entropy rare-earth alloy GdTbHoErY

S. F. Lu et al.

Summary: The magnetocaloric effect of a single-phase high-entropy rare-earth alloy GdTbHoErY with a hexagonal close-packed structure was studied, revealing that the alloy's isothermal magnetic entropy change peak widens with the increasing external field, leading to a higher refrigerant capacity value. The high RC of the high-entropy alloy is mainly due to its wider working temperature range, and the random distribution of atoms in the lattice results in a complex magnetic structure and exchange coupling, enhancing the magnetocaloric effect.

Summary: Through design and processing, non-equiatomic high-entropy-metallic-glass alloy microwires with tunable Curie temperatures and excellent magnetocaloric properties were successfully fabricated. The presence of Fe significantly affects the cooling efficiency and magnetocaloric response of the microwires.
