Factors associated with graft survival in South African adolescent renal transplant patients at CMJAH over a 20-year period (GRAFT-SAT Study)

Priya Darshani Chhiba et al.

Summary: This study evaluated patient and graft outcomes of adolescent renal transplant patients in Johannesburg, South Africa over a 20-year period. Factors associated with graft failure included transplant during the adolescence period, non-compliance with follow-up, and receipt of a DD graft. Patient survival rates were high at different time points, suggesting the establishment of transition clinics to improve outcomes for this vulnerable group.

Addressing Social Adversity to Improve Outcomes for Children After Liver Transplant

Sharad Wadhwani et al.

Summary: The social determinants of health significantly impact outcomes, especially for children undergoing liver transplant, where those from disadvantaged neighborhoods experience higher morbidity and mortality risks. However, there is still a lack of understanding on how to address these social adversities effectively. More data on specific social risk factors and interventions are needed to improve outcomes for these children.
