Preterm birth and Kawasaki disease: a nationwide Japanese population-based study

Summary: This study investigated the risk of preterm infants developing Kawasaki disease in Japan, with results showing that preterm infants were more likely to be hospitalized due to this disease. Exclusive breastfeeding was suggested to potentially prevent Kawasaki disease among preterm infants.

Summary: In this study, inadequate folic acid intake during pregnancy, maternal thyroid disease during pregnancy, and presence of siblings were found to be associated with KD onset in infancy. Further well-designed studies are needed to confirm the causal relationship between these exposures and KD onset.
