Hemodynamic disturbances and oliguria during continuous kidney replacement therapy in critically ill children

Sarah N. Fernandez Lafever et al.

Summary: 1.5% of patients admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) will require continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT)/renal replacement therapy (CRRT), with a mortality rate ranging from 30 to 60%. CKRT-related hypotension (CKRT-RHI) can occur in 19-45% of patients. Oliguria after onset of CKRT is common, but has not been directly addressed in scientific literature.

Summary: This study found that survivors of pediatric dialysis-treated AKI have higher long-term risks compared to a matched hospitalized cohort. During the follow-up period, AKI survivors had increased risks of kidney failure, death, CKD, and hypertension.

Mean Arterial Pressure and Discharge Outcomes in Severe Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury

Scott L. Erickson et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the association between MAP-based hypotension and discharge outcomes in children with severe TBI. The results showed that the lowest MAP percentile had moderately predictive ability for poor discharge outcomes, while the lowest SBP percentile had slightly higher predictive ability. MAP had a stronger association with outcomes than SBP, although with slightly lower predictive ability.
