Vitiligo: Translational research and effective therapeutic strategies

Vishal Thakur et al.

Summary: This is an exciting phase of vitiligo research as understanding of vitiligo pathogenesis has led to successful treatment. Vitiligo originates from autoimmunity with contributions from factors like oxidative stress and melanocyte defects. Treatment aims to rescue melanocytes to arrest depigmentation and replenish them for successful repigmentation, while also focusing on maintaining stability to prevent relapse, especially in non-segmental vitiligo.

Participation of keratinocyte- and fibroblast-derived factors in melanocyte homeostasis, the response to UV, and pigmentary disorders

Parth R. Upadhyay et al.

Summary: Human epidermal melanocytes play a crucial role in sensing the environment and protecting the skin, with their survival and function being regulated by paracrine factors produced by epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts. Disruption of this network can lead to pigmentary disorders.
