Bis-Cyclooctatetraenyl Thulium(II): Highly Reducing Lanthanide Sandwich Single-Molecule Magnets

Jules Moutet et al.

Summary: Divalent lanthanide organometallics are highly reducing compounds known for single electron transfer reactivity and small molecule activation. This study presents a rare organometallic sandwich compound of divalent thulium with the cyclooctatetraenyl ligand, introducing it as an additional strategy for designing high-performing Single Molecule Magnets. The first divalent thulium sandwich complex with f(13) configuration behaves as a single-molecule magnet even in the absence of a DC field.

Intermediate Valence States in Lanthanide Compounds

Maxime Tricoire et al.

Summary: Over the past 50 years, intermediate valence states in lanthanide compounds have often led to unexpected or puzzling spectroscopic and magnetic properties. New theoretical models involving multiconfigurational electronic ground states have helped to rationalize these experimental singularities. Understanding and adjusting the ground-state multiconfigurational behavior in lanthanide complexes may lead to new avenues for modular and unusual reactivities.

Size-Controlled Hapticity Switching in [Ln(C9H9)(C8H8)] Sandwiches

Maxime Tricoire et al.

Summary: A series of lanthanide sandwich complexes ligated by cyclononatetraenyl and cyclooctatetraenyl ligands were reported, showing different coordination patterns in the solid state depending on the size of the corresponding lanthanide ion. Characterization in solid state and solution, static magnetic studies, and ab initio computational studies were conducted to explore their coordination behavior.
