Replacement of the Common Chromium Source CrCl3(thf)3 with Well-Defined [CrCl2(μ-Cl)(thf)2]2

Dong Geun Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a well-defined form of the THF adduct of CrCl3 was disclosed, which enabled structure determination by X-ray crystallography. The catalyst prepared using this material as a starting material exhibited reliably high activity. Single crystals of complex compounds were successfully obtained using this well-defined Cr source, allowing structure determination by X-ray crystallography, which was unsuccessful when impure CrCl3(thf)(3) was used.

Reactivity and mechanism in reactions of methylene halides with cycloneophylplatinum(II) complexes: Oxidative addition and methylene insertion

Mohamed E. Moustafa et al.

Summary: By monitoring the reactions of methylene halides with cycloneophylplatinum(II) complexes using NMR spectroscopy, it was shown that the major route to the methylene insertion product was through rearrangement of the initial product of oxidative addition. Detection of trans oxidative addition and methylene insertion products in solution at intermediate stages was observed when X = I and NN = 4,4'-di-t-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine. The methylene insertion step was strongly retarded in the presence of free halide, indicating reaction occurred via a cationic intermediate formed by halide dissociation from the platinum complex.

Diboron-Promoted Reduction of Ni(II) Salts: Precatalyst Activation Studies Relevant to Ni-Catalyzed Borylation Reactions

Matthew Joannou et al.

Summary: The activation and reduction of nickel(II) salts under conditions relevant to Ni-catalyzed borylation reactions were reported. The efficient reduction of Ni(II) to Ni(0) and a likely route for precatalyst entry into the Ni-borylation catalytic cycle were demonstrated. Comparable yields to the original report were observed, further demonstrating that Ni(0) active species can be efficiently accessed with diboron reagents under protic conditions from Ni(II) salt hydrates.
