Photoredox Fluoroalkylation of Hydrazones in Neutral and Reductive Modes

Boris A. van der Worp et al.

Summary: The visible light-promoted fluoroalkylation of hydrazones using 4-perfluoropyridine sulfides as fluoroalkyl radical sources was described. The process can proceed in neutral and reductive modes, delivering different products depending on the structure of starting substrates and reaction conditions. Ascorbic acid is used as a terminal reductant in the reductive process, recycling the photocatalyst and providing a source of hydrogen for nitrogen-centered radicals.

Photoredox-Catalyzed Decarboxylative Cross-Coupling of α-Amino Acids with Nitrones

Heng-Hui Li et al.

Summary: A decarboxylative cross-coupling reaction of alpha-amino acids with nitrones via visible-light-induced photoredox catalysis has been established, providing easy access to beta-amino hydroxylamines and vicinal diamines with structural diversity. This protocol offers efficient synthetic strategies for some valuable molecules containing vicinal diamine groups.

Visible Light-Induced Pd-Catalyzed Alkyl-Heck Reaction of Oximes

Nikita Kvasovs et al.

Summary: This method utilizes visible light-induced generation of nucleophilic hybrid alkyl Pd radical intermediates to achieve efficient atom economical C-C bond construction of alkyl-substituted oximes, allowing a broad range of primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl bromides and iodides, as well as a range of different formaldoximes, to efficiently undergo this transformation.

Carbamoylation of Azomethine Imines via Visible-Light Photoredox Catalysis

Bianca T. Matsuo et al.

Summary: The versatile and robust photocatalytic methodology described in this study allows for the installation of the amide functional group into azomethine imine ions with broad scope and mild reaction conditions. It is suitable for preparing structurally complex compounds such as amino acids, peptides, and small drug-like molecules. Additionally, the generated pyrazolidinone core can be easily converted into beta-alanine analogues.

Photocatalytic decarboxylative amidosulfonation enables direct transformation of carboxylic acids to sulfonamides

Vu T. Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study introduces a visible light-induced dual catalytic platform that enables a one-step access to sulfonamides and sulfonyl azides directly from carboxylic acids. The broad scope of this platform is achieved through the efficient conversion of carboxylic acids to sulfinic acids catalyzed by acridine photocatalysts, coupled with copper-catalyzed sulfur-nitrogen bond-forming cross-couplings.

Stereoselective synthesis of unnatural α-amino acid derivatives through photoredox catalysis

Andrey Shatskiy et al.

Summary: A protocol for stereoselective C-radical addition to a chiral glyoxylate-derived N-sulfinyl imine was developed through visible light-promoted photoredox catalysis, providing a convenient method for the synthesis of unnatural alpha-amino acids. The protocol allows the use of ubiquitous carboxylic acids as radical precursors without prior derivatization. Alternative mechanisms for the developed transformation are discussed and corroborated by experimental and computational studies.

Alkene homologation via visible light promoted hydrophosphination using triphenylphosphonium triflate

Vitalij V. Levin et al.

Summary: A hydrophosphination reaction of alkenes with triphenylphosphonium triflate under photocatalytic conditions is described in this study. The reaction is promoted by naphthalene-fused N-acylbenzimidazole and is believed to proceed through intermediate formation of a phosphinyl radical cation, resulting in phosphonium salts directly involved in the Wittig reaction leading to homologated alkenes.
