Real-time observation of frequency Bloch oscillations with fibre loop modulation

Hao Chen et al.

Summary: Bloch oscillations (BOs) were originally predicted for electrons in a solid lattice under a static electric field. Despite challenges, analogies of electron BOs have been experimentally demonstrated for photons, acoustic phonons, and cold atoms. Recently, BOs in the frequency dimension have been proposed and studied using an optical micro-resonator, offering a new approach to controlling light frequency. This study experimentally demonstrates BOs in a synthetic frequency lattice using fibre-loop circuit with detuned phase modulation, suggesting potential applications in optical fibre communication systems.

Vortex states in an acoustic Weyl crystal with a topological lattice defect

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: The researchers have designed and implemented a three-dimensional acoustic Weyl metamaterial hosting modes bound to a one-dimensional topological lattice defect. These modes carry nonzero orbital angular momentum locked to the direction of propagation and have demonstrated the ability to emit acoustic vortices into free space.
