Sub-30-fs Yb:YAG thin-disk laser oscillator operating in the strongly self-phase modulation broadened regime

Summary: In this research, we explore the limits of pulse duration in a Kerr-lens modelocked Yb:YAG thin-disk laser (TDL) oscillator. By optimizing various mode-locking parameters, we achieve the shortest pulse duration directly generated by any ultrafast TDL oscillator operating in the strongly self-phase modulation broadened regime. Our results provide insights into trade-offs in average power, pulse duration, efficiency, and intra-cavity peak power for ultrafast TDL oscillators.
