Interferometric imaging for the tomography of rough particles in a flow: A case study

Summary: In this study, the possibility of performing tomography of irregularly-shaped rough particles in a flow using multi-view interferometric imaging was investigated. By combining three perpendicular angles of views, a family of possible 3D-shapes was reconstructed from speckle patterns. The principle was tested and confirmed experimentally by analyzing a set of three interferometric images of programmable particles generated by a digital micromirror device.

Characterization of particle size and shape by an IPI system through deep learning

Summary: In this study, a convolutional neural network was proposed to predict sand projections from experimental defocused images based on the relationship between the distributions of particle emitting points and speckles. The results showed that the predicted particle projections were accurate with a small difference of less than 6% compared to the actual projections, demonstrating the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed method.
