Seasonal variation in the canopy color of temperate evergreen conifer forests

Summary: The seasonal changes in canopy color of evergreen forests are independent of new leaf production, but are correlated with changes in chlorophyll fluorescence, the photochemical reflectance index, and leaf pigmentation. These changes can be used to predict the onset and cessation of photosynthesis at winter-dormant sites. A temperature-based model successfully simulates interannual variation in canopy color changes.
