Assessing Nanopore Sequencing for Clinical Diagnostics: a Comparison of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Methods for Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Carol Smith et al.

Summary: The study assessed the feasibility of using nanopore sequencing for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and compared the results with Illumina MiSeq sequencing. The results showed that nanopore sequencing can achieve comparable levels of genotyping analysis and drug resistance predictions at a competitive cost per sample, making it a suitable alternative or complement to current sequencing platforms in a clinical setting.

Direct Nanopore Sequencing of Individual Full Length tRNA Strands

Niki K. Thomas et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for direct tRNA sequencing using the Oxford Nanopore MinION, with custom adapters and an optimized nanopore sequencing pipeline. The method was successfully tested on purified E. coli tRNA samples, demonstrating the potential of nanopore direct tRNA sequencing to detect expected isoacceptors and known modifications. Further improvements are needed for implementing tRNA sequencing for human healthcare applications.
