Symbiotic soil fungi enhance resistance and resilience of an experimental grassland to drought and nitrogen deposition

Yangyang Jia et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the significant role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in enhancing the resistance and resilience of plant communities to drought and nitrogen deposition, by improving plant productivity, diversity, and reducing nitrogen losses. AMF not only promote resistance to harsh conditions of global change but also improve resilience by enabling plant communities to recover, thus acting as an insurance capacity to buffer ecosystems against global change.

Mycorrhizal fungi maintain plant community stability by mitigating the negative effects of nitrogen deposition on subordinate species in Central Asia

Yangyang Jia et al.

Summary: The study found that suppression of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) significantly reduced Shannon-Wiener diversity and evenness, while realistic nitrogen (N) deposition only marginally decreased Shannon-Wiener diversity. Suppression of AMF and increased N deposition greatly increased species turnover. Additionally, the stability of subordinate plant species was significantly correlated with community-level stability.

Suppression of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi decreases the temporal stability of community productivity under elevated temperature and nitrogen addition in a temperate meadow

Xue Yang et al.

Summary: Global change has significant effects on the stability of temperate meadows, with AMF playing a key role in the response of plant community temporal stability to global change.
