Nuclear spin conservation enables state-to-state control of ultracold molecular reactions

Ming-Guang Hu et al.

Summary: By leveraging the conservation of nuclear spins throughout the reaction process, control over the product state of bimolecular reactions has been demonstrated by manipulating the reactants' nuclear spins. This technique allows for changing the occupation of product states by altering the coherent superposition of initial nuclear spin states, enabling control of reaction inputs and outputs with quantum-state resolution. The techniques demonstrated here open up possibilities to study quantum entanglement between reaction products and ultracold reaction dynamics at the state-to-state level.

Towards chemistry at absolute zero

Brianna R. Heazlewood et al.

Summary: Cooling matter to temperatures close to absolute zero poses intriguing questions about changes in chemical reactivity; at ultra-low temperatures, quantum effects challenge the traditional understanding of chemical reactivity; recent experimental and theoretical developments are providing a clearer picture of chemistry close to absolute zero.

CeNTREX: a new search for time-reversal symmetry violation in the 205Tl nucleus

O. Grasdijk et al.

Summary: The CeNTREX experiment aims to increase sensitivity to hadronic time reversal (T) violating interactions using advanced techniques. The experimental signature involves shifts in nuclear magnetic resonance frequencies of Tl-205. The experiment utilizes cryogenic molecular beam sources and optical state preparation to achieve higher sensitivity and better control of systematic errors.

High Phase-Space Density of Laser-Cooled Molecules in an Optical Lattice

Yewei Wu et al.

Summary: Laser cooling and trapping of yttrium monoxide molecules in an optical lattice have been achieved, with gray molasses cooling proving to be efficient for achieving a low molecule temperature of 6.1(6) mu K. A trapped sample of 1200 molecules with a high spatial and phase-space density has been produced, with further cooling to 1.0(2) mu K reported, making it 20 times colder than previously achieved for laser-cooled molecules in a trap.

Proton-electron mass ratio by high-resolution optical spectroscopy of ion ensembles in the resolved-carrier regime

I. V. Kortunov et al.

Summary: Optical spectroscopy in the gas phase plays a key role in elucidating the structure of atoms and molecules and their interaction with external fields. Laser cooling techniques can provide strong confinement for trapped particles, leading to optical spectroscopy free of first-order Doppler and transit broadening effects. Research shows that one-photon optical spectroscopy free of Doppler and transit broadening can also be achieved with more easily prepared ensembles of ions using mid-infrared radiation.

Probing fast oscillating scalar dark matter with atoms and molecules

Dionysios Antypas et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential variations in fundamental constants of nature induced by light scalar dark matter with scalar couplings to matter is discussed. The focus is on rapid changes, with recent experiments like WReSL reporting on direct searches in the radio-frequency band. Future plans include extending the work to molecules for sensitive searches of rapid variations in nuclear mass.

Precision test of statistical dynamics with state-to-state ultracold chemistry

Yu Liu et al.

Summary: Chemical reactions at ultralow temperatures provide an ideal platform for testing quantum chemistry and scattering theories. By reporting the full product state distribution for the reaction 2KRb -> K-2 + Rb-2, this study demonstrates experimental control over initial quantum degrees of freedom and reveals deviations from statistical theory in the state-pairs observed. The completeness of the measurements sets a benchmark for advancing quantum dynamics calculations.

Preparation of one 87Rb and one 133Cs atom in a single optical tweezer

R. Brooks et al.

Summary: In this study, exactly one Rb-87 atom and one Cs-133 atom were prepared in the same optical tweezer, serving as the essential first step towards constructing a tweezer array of (RbCs)-Rb-87-Cs-133 molecules. By carefully selecting the tweezer wavelengths, species-selective trapping potentials suitable for high-fidelity preparation of Rb + Cs atom pairs were engineered. The merging of two tweezers was achieved using an acousto-optic deflector and a piezo-controlled mirror, retaining the atom pair with a high probability of 0.99((-0.02))((+0.01)).
