Evaluation of toxicity and mutagenicity of a synthetic effluent containing azo dye after Advanced Oxidation Process treatment

Barbara Lopes Alderete et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxicity and mutagenic capacity of a synthetic effluent containing Amido Black 10B (AB10B) azo dye before and after treatment with Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP). The treated effluent showed 100% immobility to D. magna after treatment, while the original effluent induced chromosomal mutations in A. cepa test, but did not induce gene mutations in S. typhimurium strains.

When treatment increases the contaminant's ecotoxicity: A study of the Fenton process in the degradation of methylene blue

Mayane Marques Vieira et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the chronic ecotoxicity of methylene blue dye degraded by the Fenton process on aquatic organisms, using the non-target planarian Girardia tigrina. The degraded dye showed stronger toxic effects compared to the untreated dye, mainly due to residual hydrogen peroxide and iron. Therefore, utilizing less oxidizing agents in the Fenton process is crucial for protecting aquatic ecosystems without compromising efficient dye removal.

Glycothermally Synthesized Carbon Dots with Narrow-Bandwidth and Color-Tunable Solvatochromic Fluorescence for Wide-Color-Gamut Displays

Taishu Yoshinaga et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared CDs with narrow bandwidth fluorescent spectra and achieved emission color tuning from blue to green by selecting different solvents. The CD-dispersed polymer films showed similar solvatochromic behavior, verifying the feasibility of applying CDs to displays with a wide color gamut.

Summary: Textile industries play a significant role in economic growth but are also major contributors to pollution. Conventional waste effluent treatment methods are resource-intensive, while photocatalysis is seen as a sustainable technology, albeit with challenges of long degradation times and low removal efficiencies.
