Synthesis of sub-nanometric Cu2O catalysts for Pd-free C-C coupling reactions

Ankit Agrawal et al.

Summary: A facile solution-phase sonochemical route was used to synthesize glucose-template-mediated Cu2O nanocrystals with well-defined sizes and shapes. The Cu2O nanocrystals showed high activity for the Ullmann homocoupling reactions of aryl halides, with octagonal nanocrystals achieving a 61.6% conversion of chlorobenzene and a high turn-over-frequency of 1696 h(-1). The study highlights the importance of shape engineering for designing an efficient catalyst for the Ullmann reaction.
