Sudden sensorineural hearing loss in patients with vestibular schwannoma

Koichiro Wasano et al.

Summary: Research shows that sudden sensorineural hearing loss associated with vestibular schwannoma has different recovery rates based on the number of episodes, with the recovery rate decreasing as the number of episodes increases.

The default mode network in cognition: a topographical perspective

Jonathan Smallwood et al.

Summary: The default mode network (DMN) consists of widely distributed brain regions in the parietal, temporal, and frontal cortex, showing reduced activity during attention-demanding tasks and increased activity during complex cognition tasks. DMN is located in regions furthest away from sensory and motor systems in the cortex. Leveraging knowledge of the topographic characteristics of DMN can enhance understanding of its contribution to cognition and behavior.

Altered Spontaneous Brain Activity in Subjects With Different Cognitive States of Biologically Defined Alzheimer's Disease: A Surface-Based Functional Brain Imaging Study

Zili Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated cortical functional alterations in the AD continuum using a surface-based approach, finding that spontaneous brain activity in the left posterior cingulate cortex may decrease in preclinical AD. The combination of surfaced-based approach and specific frequency band analysis may increase sensitivity for the identification of preclinical AD subjects.

Paediatric Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Pooled Analysis and Systematic Review

Jacob C. S. Reading et al.

Summary: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) in children is rare but can cause significant morbidity if untreated. A systematic literature review found a recovery rate of 56% with systemic steroids as main treatment. Local steroid therapy may be used after systemic steroid failure to improve outcomes, with bilateral SSNHL having poorer prognosis than unilateral loss.
