A novel role for the ADHD risk gene latrophilin-3 in learning and memory in Lphn3 knockout rats

Samantha L. Regan et al.

Summary: Research suggests that LPHN3 has a selective impact on egocentric and allocentric learning and memory, while having no effects on conditioned freezing or recognition memory.

The World Federation of ADHD International Consensus Statement: 208 Evidence-based conclusions about the disorder

Stephen Faraone et al.

Summary: This study curated 208 empirically supported statements about ADHD based on strong evidence. These statements were endorsed by 80 authors from 27 countries and 6 continents, as well as 366 readers who agreed with the contents of the document. The meta-analysis findings provide firm statements about the nature, course, outcome causes, and treatments of ADHD, which can help reduce misconceptions and stigma.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Associated Factors Among First-Year Elementary School Students

Hai Huu Hoang et al.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence of ADHD and associated risk factors among first-year pupils in an urban city in Vietnam. It found that male gender, family history of ADHD, prenatal exposure to tobacco smoke, and alcohol consumption increased the risk of ADHD. Public health programs should focus on reducing prenatal exposure to these potential risk factors.

Early-life environmental exposure determinants of child behavior in Europe: A longitudinal, population-based study

Lea Maitre et al.

Summary: The HELIX project investigated the impact of various prenatal and postnatal environmental exposures on child behavior, finding that smoking and car traffic during pregnancy were associated with behavioral problems in children. In childhood, healthy lifestyle habits such as longer sleep duration, healthy diet, and higher family social capital were linked to reduced behavioral issues, while exposure to lead, copper, indoor air pollution, and unhealthy diet were associated with increased behavioral problems. Unexpectedly, decreases in behavioral scores were observed with exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and organophosphate (OP) pesticides.

An assessment of executive function in two different rat models of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder: Spontaneously hypertensive versus Lphn3 knockout rats

Helen J. K. Sable et al.

Summary: The study explored the impact of Lphn3 deletion on behavioral control associated with ADHD and externalizing behaviors in rats. Results showed deficits in impulsive action and working memory in Lphn3(-/-) rats compared to control rats, suggesting a role for Lphn3 in modulating inhibitory control and working memory. Further research on the role of Lphn3 in externalizing disorders is warranted.

Summary: Deltamethrin (DLM), a Type II pyrethroid pesticide, is widely used in various sectors. Epidemiological studies show that increased pyrethroid exposure during development is linked to neurobehavioral disorders, but further research is needed to understand its long-term effects.

Summary: The increasing incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly in children, in recent decades may be attributed to various factors including genetic aspects, environmental toxins, and other high-risk factors. This review elaborates on the potential pathogenic factors and provides suggestions for minimizing exposures and risks in clinical and daily life to curb the growth of these diseases.
