Genomic Risk Score impact on susceptibility to systemic sclerosis

Lara Bossini-Castillo et al.

Summary: Genomic Risk Scores (GRS) have shown potential in predicting the risk of systemic sclerosis (SSc) and differentiating SSc patients from controls or other IMIDs. The best-fitting SSc GRS included 33 SNPs and significantly improved diagnostic performance when combined with demographic and immunological parameters in a multivariate model. Additionally, a serological subtype GRS based on allelic effects distinguished between different subtypes of SSc, highlighting the potential for GRS in supporting differential diagnosis.

Translational Neuroendocrinology of Human Skin: Concepts and Perspectives

Yuval Ramot et al.

Summary: Neurohormones play a vital role in human skin physiology and pathology, and their study can lead to novel dermatological therapies. Human skin and its appendages serve as accessible model systems for investigating non-classical neurohormone functions, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Structure-based design of a Cortistatin analogue with immunomodulatory activity in models of inflammatory bowel disease

Alvaro Rol et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract and disrupted immune responses. Researchers have examined Cortistatin analogues that have enhanced half-life stability while maintaining immunomodulatory functionality.

The Neuropeptide Cortistatin Alleviates Neuropathic Pain in Experimental Models of Peripheral Nerve Injury

Clara P. Falo et al.

Summary: The study found that cortistatin may have a potential analgesic effect in neuropathic pain by regulating the sensitization of nociceptors, inhibiting neuroinflammatory responses, and enhancing the production of neurotrophic factors. Additionally, cortistatin also showed neuroregenerative and protective capacity, making it a promising alternative for treating chronic neuropathic pain.
