Summary: The valence-dominance model proposed by Oosterhof and Todorov has shown to generalize well across regions, but regional differences are revealed when different extraction methods are used. When dimensions are forced to be orthogonal, the model performs better, but when correlated and rotated, regional differences become apparent.

Investigating the replicability of preclinical cancer biology

Summary: Replicability is an important feature of scientific research, but aspects of contemporary research culture, such as an emphasis on novelty, can make replicability seem less important than it should be. The Reproducibility Project: Cancer Biology aimed to provide evidence about the replicability of preclinical research in cancer biology by repeating selected experiments from high-impact papers. The study found that most of the original effects were positive effects, and in replication experiments, the effect sizes were generally smaller compared to the original experiments.

A multi-country test of brief reappraisal interventions on emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic

Summary: The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to increased negative emotions and decreased positive emotions. However, the study shows that reappraisal interventions, such as reconstrual and repurposing, can effectively reduce negative emotions and increase positive emotions across diverse populations. Importantly, these interventions did not affect intentions to practice preventive health behaviors, indicating their potential for widespread use.
