Sediment cells and their dynamics along the coasts of India - A review

Ramachandran Ramesh et al.

Summary: The coastal zone is dynamic and influenced by various factors from marine, terrestrial, atmospheric, biosphere, fluvial systems, tectonic processes and human interventions. Understanding these interactions is crucial for the sustainability of the coast. Viewing the coast as discrete functional units called 'Sediment Cells' rather than a continuous stretch of land surface is a key concept in developing a holistic approach towards coastal management.

Lateral shoreline erosion and shore-proximal sediment deposition on a coastal marsh from seasonal, storm and decadal measurements

Kathryn E. L. Smith et al.

Summary: The persistence of coastal marshes depends on the maintenance of their elevation relative to sea level and the balance between sediment deposition and shoreline erosion. Wave climate plays a crucial role in driving sediment delivery to marsh platforms.

SPATIO-TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF WULAN DELTA IN INDONESIA: CHARACTERISTICS, EVOLUTION, AND CONTROLLING FACTORS

Bagus Septiangga et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the spatio-temporal evolution of the Wulan Delta from 1995 to 2020, finding that over the 25-year period, there was a loss of 7.16 km(2) of land and an accumulation of 6.58 km(2). The erosion was primarily caused by high waves, while sedimentation was due to mangrove planting and high sediment from the rivers.

Shoreline Dynamics in East Java Province, Indonesia, from 2000 to 2019 Using Multi-Sensor Remote Sensing Data

Sanjiwana Arjasakusuma et al.

Summary: This study utilized remote sensing data to analyze shoreline changes in East Java Province, Indonesia from 2000 to 2019, revealing that coastal accretion is more significant than erosion in the region, especially in the deltas of the Bengawan Solo and Brantas/Porong rivers.

Evidence of Unknown Paleo-Tsunami Events along the Alas Strait, West Sumbawa, Indonesia

Bachtiar W. Mutaqin et al.

Summary: Indonesia is prone to earthquakes, volcanic activities, and tsunamis. The study aimed to investigate marine-origin sediments along the Alas Strait of Indonesia to find evidence and determine their ages. Coral and seashell samples from the western coast of Sumbawa yielded possible tsunami deposits dating back to the 4th, 9th, and 17th centuries, indicating past large earthquakes triggered these tsunamis rather than volcanic eruptions.
