Nanowheat-Like α-Fe2O3@Co-Based/Ti Foil Photoanode with Surface Defects for Enhanced Charge Carrier Separation and Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Li Fu et al.

Summary: The alpha-Fe2O3-H@CoO-H/Ti foil synthesized by a two-step calcination process is used as a photoanode for photoelectrochemical water splitting, with a nanowheat-like structure and surface defects favorable for light absorption and charge carrier separation. Characterization studies show that the photoanode exhibits high photocurrent densities at 1.23V and 1.6V versus reversible hydrogen electrode. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy reveals decreased resistance and improved charge carrier behavior at the interface. Various factors including morphology, residual catalyst, and surface defects play important roles in enhancing the efficiency of photoelectrochemical water splitting.

Fe2O3 nanorods/CuO nanoparticles p-n heterojunction photoanode: Effective charge separation and enhanced photoelectrochemical properties

Jingyi Ma et al.

Summary: Fe2O3/CuO p-n heterojunction photoelectrode films were fabricated by growing CuO nanoparticles on Fe2O3 nanorods via an impregnation method. The obtained Fe2O3/CuO photoelectrodes exhibited high intensity of visible-light absorption and excellence photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. The enhanced PEC performance was mainly contributed by the enhanced charge separation and the synergism achieved in Fe2O3/CuO p-n heterojunctions.

The quaternary system of Ag2S/ZnS co-modified ZnO/TiO2 nanotree arrays: Excellent photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry performance

Kang Xu et al.

Summary: The ZnO/TiO2 nanotree arrays promote the separation of electron-hole pairs, with improved photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic properties. The core-shell structure of ZnS passivation layer and ZnO prevents decomposition, enhances light absorption, and promotes charge transfer. Ag2S modification reduces bandgap width, red-shifts optical absorption edge, and improves absorption intensity, resulting in enhanced photo current density and photocatalytic rate constants compared to pure TiO2.

Covalent S-O Bonding Enables Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Performance of Cu2S/Fe2O3 Heterojunction for Water Splitting

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: The construction of Cu2S/Fe2O3 heterojunction can significantly improve the photoelectrochemical performance and stability for water splitting, enhancing charge separation and transfer, extending light absorption range, and reducing charge recombination rate. Additionally, the heterostructure exhibits a higher temperature under illumination due to the photothermal properties of Cu2S, which is beneficial for increasing the rate of oxygen evolution reaction.
