Single-Molecule Conductance of 1,4-Azaborine Derivatives as Models of BN-doped PAHs

Lucia Palomino-Ruiz et al.

Summary: The study found that the single-molecule conductance of BN-acene-like derivatives is comparable to that of all-carbon anthracene compounds, indicating that B-N doping could be used to stabilize and characterize larger acenes for molecular electronics applications. This conclusion is supported by state-of-the-art transport calculations.

Electronic Structure and Transport Properties of Single-Molecule Junctions with Different Sizes of pi-Conjugated System

Yuji Isshiki et al.

Summary: The study investigated the electronic structure and charge transport properties of acene-type molecules with varying sizes of the pi-conjugated system in single-molecule junctions under ambient conditions. It was found that the electronic conductance in the H state increased with size, while in the L state it decreased. This behavior was attributed to the size-dependent electronic structure and metal-molecule electronic interaction within the junctions.

Role of the Binding Motifs in the Energy Level Alignment and Conductance of Amine-Gold Linked Molecular Junctions within DFT and DFT plus σ

Enrique Montes et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory (DFT), the electronic and conducting properties of benzenediamine connected to gold electrodes via different tip structures were investigated. Different binding motifs and junction spectral properties were examined, with corrections to molecular resonances at the junction based on atomistic structure of the tip. DFT-based transmission spectra approximated by a Lorentzian model involving only the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) can achieve conductance values in quantitative agreement with previous experiments.

Nonexponential Length Dependence of Molecular Conductance in Acene-Based Molecular Wires

Jesus Valdiviezo et al.

Summary: In the study, the conductance of acene derivatives connected to gold electrodes was calculated using density functional theory (DFT) combined with the nonequilibrium Green's function (NEGF) formalism. It was found that the systems exhibit near length-independent conductance and can show an increase with molecular length, depending on the connection to the electrodes. The analysis attributes this behavior to the decrease of the HOMO-LUMO gap with length, shifting the transmission peaks near the Fermi level.

Single-molecule conductance of dibenzopentalenes: antiaromaticity and quantum interference

Maximilian Schmidt et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of antiaromaticity and destructive quantum interference on charge transport through dibenzo-[a,e]pentalene (DBP). It is found that 5,10-connectivity leads to high single-molecule conductance, while 2,7-connectivity results in low conductance due to destructive quantum interference. Comparison between 5,10-DBP, phenyl, and anthracene analogues shows that despite anthracene having a larger HOMO-LUMO gap, 5,10-DBP exhibits higher conductance due to unfavorable level alignment.
