Ammonia Synthesis Using Single-Atom Catalysts Based on Two- Dimensional Organometallic Metal Phthalocyanine Monolayers under Ambient Conditions

Chun-Xiang Huang et al.

Summary: Three novel metal phthalocyanine single-atom catalyst candidates (MPc, M = Mo, Re, and Tc) were identified through high-throughput screening and first-principles calculations, with MoPc and TcPc monolayers showing excellent stability, low onset potential, and high selectivity for ammonia production. The hybrid reaction pathway considered in this study exhibits competitive low onset potential and high activity compared to the commonly known pure pathway, likely influencing future research on NRR mechanism exploration.

Single-metal-atom site with high-spin state embedded in defective BN nanosheet promotes electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction

Cong Fang et al.

Summary: This study theoretically investigates the electrocatalytic N-2 reduction performance of nine prototypical single-metal-atom active sites (SMASs) embedded in defective BN nanosheets. The results reveal the significant influence of the spin state of SMAS on tuning the potential-determining steps of electrocatalytic N-2 reduction reaction (eNRR), with higher spin states being beneficial for reducing limiting potentials of eNRR. The study provides guidance for catalyst design to enhance eNRR performance by tuning the spin state of the active site, breaking the scaling relations between key N-containing intermediates.

Electrocatalytic Reduction of N2 Using Metal-Doped Borophene

Lu Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of a large class of metal atoms anchored onto borophene as single atom catalysts for ammonia synthesis, identifying four potential candidates with superior performance. Additionally, Mo@BM-beta(12) and Mn@BM-beta(12) demonstrated HER suppression, surpassing most current nitrogen reduction reaction electrocatalysts in terms of performance.

Electrocatalytic Mechanism of N2 Reduction Reaction by Single-Atom Catalyst Rectangular TM-TCNQ Monolayers

Sheng-Yao Lv et al.

Summary: Through first-principles calculations, the catalytic properties and reaction mechanisms of 3d, 4d, and 5d transition metals as single-atom catalysts in 2D TM-rTCNQ monolayers for the N-2 reduction reaction were systematically investigated. Mo, Tc, and W were identified as promising SACs due to their high catalytic performance and structural stability. Strong charge transfer and orbital hybridization between the catalyst and N-2 molecules were found to enhance N-2 adsorption and activation.
