Optimizing Startshot Lightsail Design: A Generative Network-Based Approach

Zhaxylyk A. Kudyshev et al.

Summary: The Starshot lightsail project aims to build an ultralight spacecraft that can reach Proxima Centauri b in 20 years with propulsion from a high-power laser array. The project imposes extreme requirements on the lightsail's optical, mechanical, and thermal properties. The framework developed can optimize the lightsail's optical and opto-kinematic properties, opening up pathways to a multi-objective optimization of the entire lightsail propulsion system.

Analysis of the solar sail deformation based on the point cloud method

Xiyao Huang et al.

Summary: This paper uses a new modelling technique based on point cloud and triangular mesh generation to describe the deformation of solar sail. It calculates the changes in solar radiation pressure force and moment caused by deformation, and analyzes the influence of deformation on orbits. Additionally, point cloud simplification is utilized to improve computational efficiency by reducing and renewing points in the model.

Imaging low-mass planets within the habitable zone of α Centauri

K. Wagner et al.

Summary: The study introduces a ground-based mid-infrared observing approach enabling imaging of low-mass temperate exoplanets around nearby stars. The authors demonstrate sensitivity to warm sub-Neptune-sized planets within the habitable zone of alpha Centauri A based on high-quality images from cumulative observations.

Electric Propulsion Methods for Small Satellites: A Review

Dillon O'Reilly et al.

Summary: As of October 2020, there are over 2500 active satellites in orbit, with a projected increase of 1000 smallsats launched per year by 2025. Small satellites primarily rely on propulsion systems for orbital manoeuvring, station keeping, and collision avoidance.
