High-harmonic generation from topological surface states

Ya Bai et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional topological insulators host unique spin-polarized surface states with no energy gap, exhibiting unconventional charge and spin transport properties. High harmonic generation from the intrinsic topological insulator BiSbTeSe2 reveals that even-order harmonics polarized along the pump polarization stem from the spin current in helical surface states, while perpendicular components originate from out-of-plane spin polarization related to hexagonal wrapping effect.

High Harmonics and Isolated Attosecond Pulses from MgO

Zahra Nourbakhsh et al.

Summary: By studying the interaction of two-color laser pulses with MgO crystal, isolated attosecond pulses were predicted and elliptical attosecond pulses were generated. This research paves the way for compact optical devices beyond traditional isolated attosecond pulses emitted from atoms.

Tunable non-integer high-harmonic generation in a topological insulator

C. P. Schmid et al.

Summary: This study experimentally demonstrates high-order harmonic generation in a three-dimensional topological insulator, bismuth telluride. By using a specific frequency of the driving field, the generation of high-order harmonics from the bulk and topological surface was successfully differentiated, revealing unconventional HH generation processes.

Strong-field physics in three-dimensional topological insulators

Denitsa Baykusheva et al.

Summary: The study investigates the strong-field regime of light-matter interactions in topological-insulators, focusing on high-order harmonic generation. A major difference is observed in harmonic yields between surface bands and bulk states, with the surface contribution showing a peak for circularly polarized fields. Anomalous behavior is attributed to enhanced interband dipole amplitude and circular Berry connections near the Dirac point, as well as higher-order hexagonal warping terms in the Hamiltonian.
