Stringent upper limit on Be star fractions produced by binary interaction

B. Hastings et al.

Summary: This study investigates the upper limit for the production of Be stars through binary interaction. It finds that binary interaction can at most account for one-third of all main-sequence stars being Be stars in coeval populations. The required binary physics to match the observed high numbers of Be stars in open clusters needs further investigation.

ν Gem: A Hierarchical Triple System with an Outer Be Star

Robert Klement et al.

Summary: Nu Gem is confirmed to be a hierarchical triple system composed of an inner binary with two B-type stars and an outer classical Be star. The inner binary consists of two stars with different rotational broadening, while the Be star remains undetected spectroscopically. The system is dynamically stable with two orbits, one nearly circular and the other more eccentric, all in a coplanar configuration.

The Detection and Characterization of Be plus sdO Binaries from HST/STIS FUV Spectroscopy

Luqian Wang et al.

Summary: The B emission-line stars are rapid rotators likely spun up by mass and angular momentum accretion through mass transfer in an interacting binary, leading to the formation of hot sdO companions. Observations of a sample of Be stars using Hubble Space Telescope/STIS show the presence of hot sdO stars, which are hot, relatively faint, and slowly rotating, consistent with theoretical predictions. Comparison with evolutionary tracks suggests that the sdO stars are in the long-lived, He-core burning stage.

ARMADA. I. Triple Companions Detected in B-type Binaries alpha Del and nu Gem

Tyler Gardner et al.

Summary: Ground-based optical long-baseline interferometry has the precision to measure close binary systems' orbits and detect giant planets and stellar companions. The ARMADA survey aims to discover new compact triple systems and improve statistics of hierarchical system architectures. The wavelength calibration scheme delivers precision at the microarcseconds level for binaries and the survey has shown a factor of 10 better precision than previous similar studies.

Population Synthesis of Galactic Be-star Binaries with a Helium-star Companion

Yong Shao et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential population of Be-He binaries in the Milky Way was simulated using the binary population synthesis method. It was found that LB-1 likely evolved through non-conservative mass transfer to become a Be-He system, and more than 10^3 bright Be-He binaries were estimated to exist in the galaxy.
