Observing the Time Evolution of the Multicomponent Nucleus of 3C 84

Brian Punsly et al.

Summary: The recent development of global millimeter-band very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) has revealed the morphology of the base of the nearby bright extragalactic radio jets in M87 and 3C 84, showing surprising results compared to jet theory predictions. The complex nucleus of 3C 84 appeared as a double or triple nucleus in different observations with varying resolutions. The emergence of east-west double nucleus and the associated separation speed have also been studied, suggesting a predominantly east-west separation speed that persists over a considerable distance from the central supermassive black hole gravitational radius.

Pinpointing the jet apex of 3C 84

G. F. Paraschos et al.

Summary: By analyzing VLBI imaging and core shift in 3C 84, the jet apex is found to be located upstream of the VLBI core, with a magnetic field strength of 1.80-4.0 G in the region. These findings challenge previous interpretations and reveal the complexity of the jet structure.

A Detailed Kinematic Study of 3C 84 and Its Connection to γ-Rays

Jeffrey A. Hodgson et al.

Summary: The study reveals a connection between 3C 84 and gamma-ray emission, mainly generated in high-energy radiation through kinematic changes in the jet. The radio structure indicates that the jet once moved at extreme speeds and reached maximum velocity in a relatively short period of time. The research also suggests the presence of multiple high-energy radiation sites within the source.
