HIV-1 Tat Protein Enters Dysfunctional Endothelial Cells via Integrins and Renders Them Permissive to Virus Replication

Aurelio Cafaro et al.

Summary: Previous research has shown that Tat protein of HIV-1 can enter dendritic cells through integrins alpha 5 beta 1, alpha v beta 3, and alpha v beta 5 upon binding of its RGD domain. Endothelial cells exposed to inflammatory cytokines selectively bind and take up Tat, leading to HIV replication. Tat entry is dependent on conformation and energy, and can be blocked by integrin ligands or antibodies.

A Bittersweet Computational Journey among Glycosaminoglycans

Giulia Paiardi et al.

Summary: Glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans play crucial roles in the extracellular matrix, regulating various physiological and pathological processes by modulating protein structure and function. However, the vast structural diversity of GAGs/PGs has hindered the development of dedicated analytical technologies and experimental models. Computational approaches have not been fully utilized in glycobiology, despite their potential in elucidating the complexity of GAGs/PGs.

HIV-1 Establishes a Sanctuary Site in the Testis by Permeating the BTB Through Changes in Cytoskeletal Organization

Summary: Research suggests that HIV-1 can invade the testis by perturbing the blood-testis barrier, allowing the virus to enter the seminiferous epithelium by inducing cytoskeletal changes in Sertoli cells.

HIV-1 Establishes a Sanctuary Site in the Testis by Permeating the BTB Through Changes in Cytoskeletal Organization

Siwen Wu et al.

Summary: Research indicates that HIV-1 invades the testis through disrupting the BTB, potentially through the activity of the Tat protein. Using two approaches, it was found that HIV-1 effectively permeates the BTB by inducing cytoskeletal changes in Sertoli cells.
