Trichromatic Vat Dyeing of Cationized Cotton

Ana Sutlovic et al.

Summary: Cationization of cotton during mercerization positively affects trichromatic vat dyeing, resulting in uniform coloration when conducted with an epihalohydrin during the process. Shortening the reaction time to 5 hours with 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (CHPTAC) can also improve efficiency. The change in charge upon cationization leads to high adsorption of vat-dye anions, significantly improving color depth and producing colors with higher chroma and targeted hue, particularly in trichromatic dyeing.
