Isolation and identification of Arbutus unedo L. fungi endophytes and biological control of Phytophthora cinnamomi in vitro

Joao Martins et al.

Summary: The study focused on characterizing the fungi microbiome of the strawberry tree to develop biological control strategies in orchards. A Trichoderma atroviride strain showed antagonism against various phytopathogens, particularly effective against Phytophthora cinnamomi. Enzymatic assays revealed the production of enzymes by T. atroviride, contributing to its biological control ability, including protection of strawberry tree plants against P. cinnamomi.

Plant growth promoting potential of endophytic Aspergillus niger 9-p isolated from native forage grass in Pantanal of Nhecolandia region, Brazil

Rodrigo Mattos Silva Galeano et al.

Summary: The study biochemically characterized the fungal Aspergillus niger 9-P isolated from native forage grass, focusing on its production of plant growth-promoting traits such as IAA, phosphate solubilization, siderophores, ammonia, ACC deaminase, and enzymes of agricultural interest. The fungus exhibited high levels of IAA production, siderophores, and phosphorus solubilizing activity, leading to increased plant growth in common bean plants in a greenhouse experiment. This suggests the potential of A. niger 9-P as a biofertilizer for promoting plant growth.
