Synthesis and switchable behavior of a CO2 responsive polymeric surfactant acting as emulsifier

Yi Zhao et al.

Summary: A new CO2-responsive polymeric surfactant, DEA-SSS, was synthesized via radical polymerization, reducing surface tension and facilitating dispersion and precipitation driven by CO2. Characterization of copolymer solutions with and without CO2 addition was conducted, showing potential for emulsion preparation and nano-emulsion formation through phase transition composition method.

The role of temperature and porous media morphology on the performance of anionic and cationic surfactants for enhanced heavy oil recovery

Seyed Mohammad Amin Hoseini-Moghadam et al.

Summary: This study revealed that temperature significantly affects the performance of surfactants, with the extent of this impact depending on the pores and throat structures of the medium. The adsorption of surfactants is influenced by temperature changes, and different types of surfactants show varying degrees of sensitivity to temperature. Ultimately, the surfactants mitigate the heterogeneous effects in the medium, leading to improved oil recovery efficiency.

A review on upgrading and viscosity reduction of heavy oil and bitumen by underground catalytic cracking

Fajun Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper reviewed various catalysts for underground catalytic cracking and upgrading of heavy oil, emphasizing the need for low-cost, high activity, high selectivity, and wide adaptability catalysts, especially ultra-dispersed nano-catalysts. Further research is needed to explore optimal catalyst synthesis processes, catalytic working conditions, and actual mechanisms of heavy oil with catalysts in order to enhance heavy oil recovery.

Soybean-Oil-Based CO2-Switchable Surfactants with Multiple Heads

Huiyu Huang et al.

Summary: Oligomeric surfactants exhibit unique properties such as low surface activity, low critical micellar concentration, and enhanced viscosity. However, no CO2 switchable oligomeric surfactants have been developed so far. This study successfully synthesized a CO2-responsive oligomeric surfactant using epoxidized soybean oil, demonstrating a good response to CO2 stimulation with changes in conductivity and viscosity. The research is expected to pave the way for further exploration of bio-based CO2-stimulated oligomeric surfactants.
