CodY, ComA, DegU and Spo0A controlling lipopeptides biosynthesis in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens fmbJ

J. Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory effects of genes codY, comA, degU, and spo0A on the biosynthesis of three lipopeptides in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Deletion and overexpression of these genes significantly impacted the production of lipopeptides, with spo0A showing potential as a key regulator for bacillomycin D synthesis. These findings suggest genetic engineering of regulatory genes as an effective strategy for improving antimicrobial lipopeptide yields in industrial production.

Biocontrol Potential of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens LYZ69 Against Anthracnose of Alfalfa (Medicago sativa)

Jinling Hu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Bacillus amyloliquefaciens LYZ69, isolated from healthy alfalfa roots, showed strong in vitro antifungal activity against Colletotrichum truncatum, a key causal agent of anthracnose in alfalfa, and protected alfalfa plants from the disease. The cell-free culture of LYZ69 inhibited mycelial growth and conidial germination, with the identification of cyclic lipopeptides like bacillomycin D and fengycin in the culture. These lipopeptides induced reactive oxygen species accumulation and apoptosis-like cell death in the anthracnose-causing fungus C. truncatum, demonstrating the potential of LYZ69 as a promising biological control agent for anthracnose in alfalfa.
