Novel selective hexokinase 2 inhibitor Benitrobenrazide blocks cancer cells growth by targeting glycolysis

Mengzhu Zheng et al.

Summary: The novel selective HK2 inhibitor BNBZ was reported to directly bind to HK2, induce cancer cell apoptosis, and inhibit glycolysis of cancer cells. BNBZ significantly inhibited cancer cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo by targeting HK2 with high potency and low toxicity.

Enhanced anti-cancer activity of andrographis with oligomeric proanthocyanidins through activation of metabolic and ferroptosis pathways in colorectal cancer

Tadanobu Shimura et al.

Summary: The combination of Andrographis paniculata and OPCs shows enhanced anti-cancer activity in colorectal cancer by inhibiting cancer cell growth, suppressing colony formation and inducing apoptosis. Transcriptomic profiling reveals involvement of metabolic pathways and ferroptosis-associated genes that contribute to the increased anti-tumorigenic activity of these compounds.

Interplay Between Glucose Metabolism and Chromatin Modifications in Cancer

Rui Ma et al.

Summary: Cancer cells reprogram glucose metabolism to support their proliferation and survival, with pathways like aerobic glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, and the TCA cycle playing crucial roles in regulating cell metabolism, gene expression, apoptosis, and autophagy. Understanding the interplay between cancer cell metabolism and chromatin modifications is essential for developing more effective cancer treatments.

Centella asiatica Extract Potentiates Anticancer Activity in an Improved 3-D PHBV-Composite-CMC A549 Lung Cancer Microenvironment Scaffold

Syazwan Aizad et al.

Summary: Traditional cell culture on 2-D surfaces is being replaced by 3-D culture models mimicking the cancer microenvironment. An improved composite 3-D scaffold showed enhanced potency of Centella asiatica extract on lung cancer cells and better biological acceptance characteristics. This study suggests that the composite 3-D scaffold could be a potential alternative method to study the effectiveness of medicinal plant extracts in a 3-D cell culture model.
