MOF based engineered materials in water remediation: Recent trends

Richelle M. Rego et al.

Summary: With the increasing demand for freshwater, materials such as metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained attention for their ability to remove contaminants from water sources. However, the poor processability and fragility of MOFs limit their practical applications in water treatment, prompting efforts to improve their stability and processability for real-world use.

Zeolitic imidazolate framework nanoleaves (ZIF-L) enhancement of strength and durability of portland cement composites

Ezzatollah Shamsaei et al.

Summary: Introducing ZIF-L into cement can enhance hydration and microstructure, leading to increased early compressive strength and improved resistance to water ingress and acid attack in cement composites. The initial set retardation effect followed by improved hydration degree is attributed to the adsorption of Ca2+ onto ZIF-L.

Influence of synthetic parameters on the enhanced photocatalytic properties of ZnO nanoparticles for the degradation of organic dyes: a green approach

Dhananjayan Badma Priya et al.

Summary: A green synthetic strategy using aqueous leaves extract of Actinodaphne madraspatna Bedd (AMB) was employed for the synthesis of ZnO NPs. The synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized for physical, chemical, and optical properties, with variations in bandgap, surface area, and crystallite structure achieved by changing experimental parameters. The green synthesized ZnO NPs exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity under UV light, showing higher rate constants for degradation of dyes.

Visible-light-driven photocatalysis of anisotropic silver nanoparticles decorated on ZnO nanorods: Synthesis and characterizations

La Phan Phuong Ha et al.

Summary: The combination of noble metals and semiconductors can create an efficient photocatalyst for degrading organic pollutants with visible light activation. In this study, Ag/ZnO nanorods were synthesized and showed superior photocatalytic activity compared to bare ZnO nanorods, thanks to the enhanced separation of electron-hole pairs and the localized surface plasmon resonance effect derived from silver nanoparticles.
