This work investigated the compressive creep behavior of a hot-extruded Mg-6Al-1Zn alloy rod and discovered that the dense twin structure developed during creep could enhance the work hardening capacity, thereby increasing the creep resistance.
This work investigated the compressive creep behavior of a hot-extruded Mg-6Al-1Zn alloy rod in relation to its work hardening capacity. The dense {10 (1) over bar2} twins developed during creep could impede dislocation movement and store dislocations, inducing a high work hardening capacity and thus causing increased creep resistance. Although creep resistance has long been thought to be proportional to yield stress, this work discovered that work hardening capacity had a more positive effect on creep resistance.
