A method for studying the basic deformation performance of bimodular simply supported beams is proposed, which can quantitatively identify different types of deformation and visualize dominant regions. A composite beam phenomenon occurs in bimodular simply supported shallow beams when there is a significant difference in tensile-compression elastic modulus.
A deformation decomposition method is proposed to study the basic deformation performance of bimodular simply supported beams, which is validated by the finite element method, the analytical solution of neutral axis height and the opening beam test. The proposed method can not only quantitatively identify tensile, compressive, bending and shear deformation of bimodular structures, but also visualize regions dominated by the above basic deformations. When the tensile-compression elastic modulus differs greatly, a composite beam phenomenon exists in bimodular simply supported shallow beams. Reducing the tensile-compression elastic modulus ratio of the material can make deep beams produce similar characteristics to shallow beams.
