Insight into the fracture evolution behavior of pre-flawed hollow-cylinder granite under multi-stage increasing-amplitude cyclic loads: A lab-scale testing

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: The study focused on the structural deterioration and fracture evolution behavior of pre-flawed hollow-cylinder granite subjected to multi-stage increasing-amplitude cyclic loads, revealing that rock with high flaw angles exhibit larger volumetric deformation and requires more energy for damage propagation. The research proposed a damage evolution model and analyzed the influence of rock structure on crack network patterns.

Numerical study on strength and failure characteristics of rock samples with different hole defects

Shaojie Chen et al.

Summary: This study conducted uniaxial compression tests on a rock mass containing various hole defects to analyze their impact on the mechanical properties. The results showed that hole defects reduce the uniaxial compressive strength, peak strain, and elastic modulus of the rock mass, while accelerating crack generation and promoting rock destruction. Different hole geometries greatly affect the magnitude and concentration area of compressive and tensile stresses, ultimately influencing the failure behavior of the rock mass.

Dynamic mechanical behaviors of interbedded marble subjected to multi-level uniaxial compressive cyclic loading conditions: An insight into fracture evolution analysis

Y. Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the fracture evolution characteristics of rocks under different interbed orientations using multi-level cyclic compressive loading experiments. The results showed that rock structure significantly impacted fatigue deformation, strength, and dynamic elastic modulus. A damage evolution model was established to simulate the accumulation of damage, revealing the influence of interbed orientation on crack propagation path and failure mode.

Influence of pore-like flaws on strength and microcracking behavior of crystalline rock

Jun Peng et al.

Summary: The aggregation of a group of pore-like flaws significantly influences the strength, deformation properties, and microcracking process of crystalline rock. As the number of pores increases, the uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus of the rock decrease. Randomly distributed pores cause more uniformly distributed stress and smaller tension zone in numerical models compared to regularly assembled pores. The position of pore-like flaws has negligible influence on the strength and deformation behavior, while the UCS increases progressively with the radius of the pore-like flaw.

A strain-based fatigue damage model for naturally fractured marble subjected to freeze-thaw and uniaxial cyclic loads

Y. Wang et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the fatigue damage evolution of rock caused by volumetric deformation from freeze-thaw and cyclic loads, as well as the influence of natural fractures on rock damage characteristics. Experimental results show that frost heaving force acting on natural fractures leads to volume changes in rock, and the damage variable expressed by volumetric strain has a linear relationship with freeze-thaw cycles. Marble exposed to cyclic loads exhibits a two-stage pattern in axial, lateral, and volumetric strain.

Influence of excavation damaged zone on the dynamic response of circular cavity subjected to transient stress wave

Huatao Zhao et al.

Summary: The research utilizes the Hoek Brown criteria to calculate the distribution of excavation damaged zone around the cavity at different burial depths, and investigates the dynamic responses of the excavation-damaged cavity under dynamic disturbance using the SEM method. Influencing factors such as the shapes of EDZ, the incident direction of dynamic disturbance, and the dynamic source frequency are identified.

Stress relaxation behaviour of marble under cyclic weak disturbance and confining pressures

Jin Yu et al.

Summary: The influence of cyclic weak disturbance on the stress relaxation of rock depends on the initial stress level and axial strain level, showing different nonlinear growth characteristics. Initially, the relaxation magnitude of weak disturbance increases with the increase of the initial stress level, while the stress relaxation rate nonlinearly decreases with axial strain levels. The weak disturbance effect presents a nonlinear growth characteristic of first decreasing and then increasing as the strain increases.

Fracture Evolution and Energy Characteristics During Marble Failure Under Triaxial Fatigue Cyclic and Confining Pressure Unloading (FC-CPU) Conditions

Y. Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the fracture evolution and energy characteristics of marble under fatigue cyclic loading and confining pressure unloading conditions, showing that the damage accumulation during fatigue loading stage influences the final failure mode and energy conversion. The post-test CT scanning reveals the effects of fatigue cycles on crack pattern and scale after FC-CPU testing, providing insight into the energy changes during the process.
