Optimisation of process parameters for an additively manufactured AlSi10Mg alloy: Limitations of the energy density-based approach on porosity and mechanical properties estimation

Maverick Giovagnoli et al.

Summary: The study found that different combinations of deposition parameters within the VED range did not significantly alter the microstructural features of the AlSi10Mg alloy, but had a severe impact on porosity. Specimens with the same VED but different hatch spacing exhibited significantly different tensile properties. Therefore, relying solely on energy density to predict the final density of additively manufactured components is unreliable.

Effects of embedded spherical pore on the tensile properties of a selective laser melted Ti6Al4V alloy

L. X. Meng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of single spherical defects on the tensile properties of SLM Ti6Al4V specimens. Different combinations of pore diameters and locations were designed to mimic sub-millimeter defects, showing negligible influence on elastic modulus and tensile strength but noticeable impact on tensile elongation. It was found that the specimens tended to have stochastic elongation to failure with increasing pore size, and fractured at a critical diameter of approximately 1000 μm. Additionally, the location of the embedded pore also influenced ductility, with elongation to failure decreasing as the embedded pore moved closer to the free surface.

Effects of electropulsing on the microstructure and microhardness of a selective laser melted Ti6Al4V alloy

J. B. Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the rapid hardening and softening of SLM-Ti6Al4V alloy through electropulsing treatment, which affects the microhardness by evolving microstructures. Electropulsing treatment reduces the thermodynamic barrier for α->β solid-state phase transformation, further refining the microstructure of the SLM-Ti6Al4V alloy.
