Experimental study and modelling of the role of solutes, precipitates and temperature on the work-hardening of AA6xxx aluminium alloys

Manojit Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study focused on investigating the work-hardening behavior of strained hardened Al alloys at different temperatures and strain rates, revealing that temperature has the most significant impact on yield strength and work-hardening rate. The study found that as temperature increases, the work-hardening rate decreases due to reduced efficiency of storing dislocations and increased dynamic recovery.

Stress Corrections After Necking Using a Two-Parameter Equation for the Radius of Curvature

Feng Lu et al.

Summary: Uniaxial tensile tests were conducted on AA6082 alloy specimens artificially aged at different times, revealing a characteristic nonlinear-to-linear transition in the relationship between a/R and strain after necking onset. The new two-parameter curve proposed offers a better fit than existing models, with a slope of 1.1 in the linear region and an additional parameter controlling the nonlinear transition region. These findings were verified through finite element modeling analysis.

Linking mechanical properties to precipitate microstructure in three Al -Mg -Si( -Cu) alloys

Jonas K. Sunde et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between precipitate microstructure and mechanical properties in age hardenable Al alloys, finding that minor changes in Si, Mg, and Cu content have a significant impact on material properties. Differences in peak strength were observed, with higher yield strength correlating with a refined precipitate microstructure. Furthermore, differences in material ductility were correlated with strength, with significantly overaged conditions leading to large differences in strength and thermal stability.
