Additively manufactured space-filling meta-implants

H. M. A. Kolken et al.

Summary: The development of shape-morphing implants using permanent lattice deformation shows potential for creating long-lasting orthopedic implants. The use of meta-implants with a deformable porous outer layer improves initial stability and homogeneously stimulates surrounding bone tissue, addressing issues with current treatment options in acetabular revision surgery. Further research should focus on design optimization to improve space-filling behavior and facilitate the implantation process for orthopedic surgeons.

Laser power modulated microstructure evolution, phase transformation and mechanical properties in NiTi fabricated by laser powder bed fusion

Wenliang Chen et al.

Summary: This study used optimized laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing parameters to produce NiTi samples with different laser powers. The HP and LP NiTi samples showed variations in microstructure, phase transformation temperatures, and mechanical properties, indicating that manipulating LPBF processing parameters can control the properties of the fabricated NiTi for different applications.
