Summary: Carbon-based photosensitizers, particularly C-DOTS, are attractive for their low cost, high stability, and broad applications. In this study, C-DOTS based on citric acid demonstrated significant antimicrobial photodynamic effect against Staphylococcus aureus, both in vitro and in vivo. These results suggest that C-DOTS-mediated photodynamic therapy shows promise as a viable treatment for Gram-positive bacteria-infected wounds.

Hemicellulose-triggered high-yield synthesis of carbon dots from biomass

Ying Wu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on using corn cobs as biomass to prepare carbon dots (CDs), with a high yield attributed to the high hemicellulose content and low lignin content of corn cobs. The effects of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin in various biomass sources on the production of CDs were also examined, revealing a novel strategy for the selection of precursors and large-scale preparation of CDs. The prepared CDs showed excellent feasibility for Fe3+ selective detection, indicating potential industrial applications.
