Nanocrystalline forsterite was synthesized using the sol-gel aided combustion method with citric acid as a fuel. Characterization through methods like XRD and SEM/EDAX showed the formation of single phasic forsterite material at 900 degrees C, with slow biomineralisation ability in physiological conditions.
Nanocrystalline forsterite (Mg2SiO4) was synthesized with the support of sol-gel aided combustion method using citric acid as a fuel. Magnesium nitrate, tetraethyl orthosilicate were taken as the source of magnesium and silica respectively. The as-synthesized forsterite material was characterized by powder XRD for phase evolution and the functional group identification was carried out using Fourier - Transform Infrared spectroscopy. The XRD pattern showed the formation of single phasic forsterite material at 900 degrees C. The SEM/EDAX analysis was done to study the surface morphology and the elemental analysis of the as-synthesized forsterite bioceramic. The in-vitro bioactivity investigation of forsterite reveals the slow biomineralisation ability of forsterite in physiological condition.
