Emission-tunable probes using terbium(III)-doped self-activated luminescent hydroxyapatite for in vitro bioimaging

Caifeng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Tb3+-doped luminescent nHAp probes known as Cit/Tb-nHAp were synthesized and characterized for their morphology, crystal phase, and luminescence properties. The color tunability was achieved by regulating the addition of Cit(3+). Biocompatibility study showed that <= 800 ppm Cit/Tb-nHAp was not cytotoxic for C6 glioma cells, and efficient cytoplasmic localization of transferrin conjugated Cit/Tb-nHAp into C6 glioma cells was demonstrated by fluorescence cell imaging, making it a promising agent for future in vitro and in vivo fluorescence bioimaging.

Morphological, ultrasonic mechanical and biological properties of hydroxyapatite layers deposited by pulsed laser deposition on alumina substrates

M. F. H. Abd El-Kader et al.

Summary: The study focused on developing innovative biomaterial compositions for hard tissue regeneration using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. Results showed changes in surface morphology, roughness, and mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite (HAP) sputtered on alumina substrates at different exposure times. The attachment behavior of human osteoblasts towards the obtained scaffolds demonstrated cell proliferation and coverage, suggesting the potential for innovative scaffold design based on tailored bioactive material depositions on inert biomaterials.

Hany El-Hamshary et al.

Summary: Different compositions of PCL nanofibrous composites were prepared with modified HAP, and the addition of silver ions was found to alter their morphology and mechanical properties. The fracture strength increased exponentially from 2.51 MPa at the lowest concentration of silver ions to 4.23 MPa at the highest concentration. Antibacterial and biocompatibility tests showed that the 0.8 Ag/V-HAP@PCL nanofibrous composition exhibited the strongest antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus.

Nanofibrous ε-polycaprolactone scaffolds containing Ag-doped magnetite nanoparticles: Physicochemical characterization and biological testing for wound dressing applications in vitro and in vivo

M. K. Ahmed et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetite nanoparticles doped with antimicrobial silver ions were incorporated into electrospun nanofibrous epsilon-polycaprolactone scaffolds. The results demonstrated that increasing silver content in the scaffolds enhanced cell adhesion and growth, as well as antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. The wound healing rate in rats also increased proportionally with the concentration of silver in the scaffolds, indicating the potential of these composite nanofibrous scaffolds for wound dressings and reconstructive skin therapies.
