Cobalt tungsten phosphide with tunable W-doping as highly efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction

Bowei Zhang et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully prepared tunable composition cobalt tungsten phosphide hollow polyhedrons through the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) template method, with the synthesized catalyst Co0.9W1.1P2/C exhibiting high-efficient hydrogen evolution performance in both acidic and alkaline environments through deliberate control of W doping. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that surface W-doping, combined with the hollow structure of Co-W phosphides, contributes to the outstanding HER catalytic performance.

Non-noble Metal Electrocatalysts for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in Water Electrolysis

Huimin Wu et al.

Summary: Water electrolysis is a sustainable method for hydrogen production using clean energy sources, but the slow kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) result in low efficiency of electrolysis devices. Current electrocatalysts, which use noble metals like platinum for catalyzing HER and OER, face limitations due to their abundance and high cost. Therefore, the focus has shifted towards developing high-performance and cost-effective non-noble metal electrocatalysts as an alternative.

Co0.85Se magnetic nanoparticles supported on carbon nanotubes as catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction

Xiaohui Sun et al.

Summary: MWCNTs/Co0.85Se nanocomposites with Co0.85Se magnetic nanoparticles supported on carbon nanotubes were prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method. The nanocomposites showed improved electrocatalytic performance due to decreased Co0.85Se nanoparticle size and increased distance between nanoparticles, benefiting specific surface area. Moreover, the composites exhibited excellent hydrogen evolution reaction performance, with a low overpotential, small Tafel slope, and good stability in an acid solution.
