The study demonstrates that the addition of minor La significantly modifies the texture and recrystallization behavior of the Mg-10Dy alloy, resulting in faster recrystallization kinetics, finer grain size, and weaker texture compared to the Mg-Dy alloy. The use of a JMAK model effectively captures the evolution of recrystallization in both alloys, with good agreement between model predictions and experimental results.
The present study investigates the potential of minor La addition in modifying the texture and recrystallization behavior of cold rolled Mg-10Dy (wt.%) alloy. The samples were rolled and then subsequently annealed at 350 degrees C for varying time intervals. La addition was found to be significantly effective in enhancing the contraction and double twins. This eventually results in faster recrystallization kinetics, finer grain size and weaker texture upon annealing in a Mg-Dy-La alloy as compared to Mg-Dy alloy. A Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) model has been employed to capture the evolution of recrystallization in both alloys. A good agreement between model predictions and experimental results has been obtained.
